Elizabeth Hutchinson; Founder
While Hibiscus House as a business began as a side hustle for Elizabeth in 2019, her passion for antiques, vintage furniture, and anything with a bit of Floridian flair is deeply ingrained in her. As a seventh generation Floridian whose mother loved to take her to estate sales, Elizabeth has developed a keen eye and deep appreciation for the pieces that have become synonymous with our brand. Her excellent taste caused her to quickly outgrow the antique booth where Hibiscus House had its start and in a few short years Elizabeth has created a brand well praised by major publications and clients alike. With a background in sales thanks to her roles at Flower Magazine and the American Cross her ideas for Hibiscus House are endless and we are eager to see the ways in which she helps the brand continue to flourish. Elizabeth met her husband, John, while at the University of Alabama and the two resided in Birmingham until their move to Charleston, South Carolina with their dog, Miss Kiwi, in the spring of 2022.
Dorothy Walton; Executive Brand Director
Although her degrees may be in Early Childhood Education, brand development is something Dorothy has been doing for years. During her time at Furman University, she ran her blog, Prep In Your Step, creating content and developing a knack for social media despite it having nothing to do with her major. After moving to Birmingham she took the skills she had developed blogging to begin working with Hoffman Media as an editorial assistant and later prop stylist. This combined background and experience made her the perfect fit to join Hibiscus House in May of 2021 as our part-time showroom assistant where she helped stage pieces, communicate with clients, and grow Hibiscus House's social media presence. In May of 2022 she began full time as our Executive Brand Director. You will find her updating our website, running our Birmingham, AL showroom, communicating with clients on custom pieces and bringing their design ideas to life, and further developing Hibiscus House's brand through marketing and collaboration. She would love to schedule an appointment and welcome you into our showroom in Birmingham where she is based!
James Carr; Director of Operations
It's hard to imagine anyone more supportive of Hibiscus House's vision than James. What began as him helping to coordinate shipping and delivery of our pieces quickly grew into James becoming our right-hand man. Now, James oversees operations of our South Florida lacquer studio. He spends much of his time souring new inventory, prepping and tagging pieces, keeping our painters on track, and communicating the achievements of the paint studio to the rest of our team. His efforts always go above and beyond and if you're one of our lucky South Florida customers he may even be the one dropping off your custom piece.
